The word “Esperanza” means hope in the Spanish language, as does the word “Tikva” in Hebrew, as in the name “Kfar Tikva”, where Tulip Winery is located and operated. The drawing on the label of Tulip’s Port Esperanza was drawn by one of the Kfar Tikva community members as part of a competition in which the members were asked to draw pictures inspired by the Jezreel Valley landscape.
This is a port style wine, which originated in the Portuguese city of Porto. The wine was derived from extremely ripe Cabernet Sauvignon grapes in order to obtain a high level of natural sweetness. High quality grape alcohol was added during the fermentation process, causing the fermentation to cease while maintaining the natural sweetness of the grape.
This wine is uniquely aged for three years in 350-liter French oak barrels which were imported especially from the leading cognac maker, “Remy Martin.”
These barrels were used to age Cognac XO for 12 years, thus providing the Port with wonderful aromas and flavors of premium cognac.
The port became concentrated and smooth as the barrels were exposed to the sun throughout the summer months and protected from the rains during the winter. Its color is a deep red, leaning toward brown and it is characterized by a sweetness that is pleasant to the palate and leaves a long finish, reminiscent of honey, dried fruit, wild berries, vanilla and caramel. The Port is not filtrated and went through no clarification process.
It is recommended to serve the Port chilled, alongside cheeses such as Roquefort, Camembert and Brie, rich chocolate desserts, nuts and dried fruit.
